IRS Audit Defense
If you are currently being audited, CKTax can provide IRS audit defense and represent you throughout the entire audit process to make sure the IRS does not take unfair advantage of you and that no additional tax be assessed because you do not know how to organize and present your case.An IRS audit usually begins with a letter from the IRS stating ''Your return has been selected for an examination.'' This does not mean you are dishonest and the inquiry does not necessarily mean you will be assessed more tax.
Two Scenarios For Selecting Audits
A high DIF Score. The IRS computer gives your return a score based on similar returns. Specially trained IRS agents review the highest scored returns and choose those they believe should be audited or if the information on your return does not match that sent in by third parties. There are 4 kinds of IRS audits
1. Correspondence Audit - a letter from the IRS Service Center requesting that you send additional information to support the deductions on your return.2. Office Audit - Also usually arrives by mail. The letter identified specific items on the return and asks for you or your representative to bring in certain substantiation and/or documents to the local office for the auditors review.
3. Field Audit - An IRS agent will personally notify you that your return has been selected. The agent will want to conduct the audit at your place of business if you don't have representation.
4. TCMP (Taxpayer Compliance Measurement Program) - Primarily an information audit for the IRS to update their scoring system. It is a total audit, every line of the return is examined and you are asked to provide documentation for each line. If by mail, the IRS will send a letter requesting additional information concerning an item or items on your return. An interview is usually much more detailed and can even ask for every line to be substantiated.
You have a legal right to representation. At CKTax we will represent you and aggressively negotiate and handle the audit. We deal with the IRS so you don't have to.
