IRS Audit Help
You do not have to face an IRS or state audit alone. CKTax can represent you throughout the entire audit process to make sure the IRS does not take unfair advantage of you, or that additional tax is assessed because you do not know how to organize and present your case.
An audit usually begins with a letter from the IRS stating,
"Your return has been selected for an examination". This does not mean you are dishonest and the inquiry does not necessarily mean you will be assessed more tax.
A return is usually selected for examination by one of two methods:
- The computer the IRS uses that identifies your returns may have incorrect amounts. These programs are based on information on the returns and use W-2's, 1099's, or certain issues identified by compliance projects. One of these is what is referred to as DIF (discriminant function system). Basically, DIF assigns a numerical value to certain items on your return.
- Information from outside sources that indicates that a return may have incorrect amounts.
An audit can be conducted either by mail or interview:
- If by mail, the IRS will send a letter requesting additional information concerning an item or items on your return.
- An interview is usually much more detailed and can even ask for every line to be substantiated.
If you have already been through an audit that resulted in additional tax that you cannot pay, we can look at an appeal, audit reconsideration, or an Offer in Compromise.
